The Basics

Gettng Online Help

Touch desktop, Help> Mac Help (Command-?)

Start> Help (or Press F1)

Power On & Off

Upper right key on keyboard with triangle or circle

Main power key on chasis

Open the Hard Drive

Double-click on hard drive icon (upper right corner) or folder icon

Double-click on "My Computer" (or enter Atl-Esc), double-click on "Drive C:"

Open a folder

Double-click on folder icon

Double-click on folder icon

Create a new empty desktop folder

Touch desktop, Command-N

Right click on the desktop>New>Folder

Force Quit

Command-Option-Esc

Control-Alt-Delete, select "End Task"

Restart

Touch desktop, Special Menu>Restart

Start> Shutdown> Restart

Force Restart

Option-Control-Reset (if keyboard has a reset)

Control-Alt-Delete, select "Restart"

Shut Down & Power Off

Touch desktop, Special Menu> Shut Down

Start> Shutdown> Shutdown

Run a Desktop Program

Double-click on program icon

Double-click on program icon

Run a non-Desktop Program

Double-click on drive icon, double-click on program after navigating to it.
OR launch sherlock to search for the program and double click on it when you locate it.

Start> Programs> program name
OR launch Find to search for the program and double click on it when you locate it.

Switch between running programs

Touch window title bar if visible
OR use Application Menu (right end of menu bar with MacOS icon)

Touch window title bar if visible
OR type Alt-Tab until selection appears

To quit a program

File> Quit or Command-Q

File> Exit or Alt-F4

Locate a File on a Disk

Touch desktop, Type Command-F to launch Sherlock

Start> Find OR F3 to launch Windows Explorer

Select non-contiguous files in list

Hold shift key down during the selections.

Hold Ctrl key down during the selections.

Delete a File

Drag the File Icon into the Trash (or select the file and Press Command-Delete)

Drag the File Icon into the Recycle Bin (or select the file and Press Delete)

Empty Deleted Files

Touch desktop, Special> Empty trash

Right click Recycle Bin>Empty Recycle Bin

Copy (not move) a File

Drag the File Icon while holding Option key

Drag the File Icon while holding Ctrl key

Copy Text

Type Command-C

Type Ctrl-C

Paste Text

Type Command-V

Type Ctrl-V

Cut Text

Type Command-X

Type Ctrl-X

Select All

Type Command-A

Type Ctrl-A

Go to Parent Folder

Type Command-Uparrow

Backspace
